Background

Many industries employ computer-based systems in critical applications. The list includes nuclear power, aerospace, telecommunications, banking, information technology (IT), health and commerce. The dependability of critical computer-based systems remains one of the most significant challenges facing these industries. The problems of dependability of computer-based systems often result from the limitations of the system software and hardware components. Ensuring computer-based system dependability must address the issue of “Dependable systems out of undependable components (DSooUDC)”. ).” This is done through the concept of P3 space (Products, Processes, and Properties) that takes into account features of the computer system and network environment, as well as the different types of potential system faults (such as developmental, physical and interactional faults). RPC ‘RADIY” has developed P3-space based methods and techniques to address DSooUDS in application of critical computer-based systems.
The DESSERT-2009 Conference we will bring together, from many countries, scientists, engineers and other experts in the field of critical computer-based system dependability to conduct focused discussions on the methodological and technical problems inherent with this interesting and important topic. .

Conference Topics

The DESSERT-2009 Conference will address analysis, modeling, development, testing, verification and validation (V&V), and maintenance of hardware and software components in critical computer-based systems used in applications to support industries and activities such as nuclear power generation and distribution, aviation, aerospace, medicine, telecommunications, networks, web-services, information technology, commerce and science. These applications impose rigorous requirements on the dependability, reliability, safety, integrity, confidentiality, survivability and maintainability of critical computer-based systems.
Topics include, but are not limited the following:

  • Methodology of ensuring dependable systems;
  • Dependability analysis and assessment;
  • Fault-tolerance as basic principle of ensuring dependability ;
  • Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) and Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) based dependable systems and technologies;
  • Dependability of service-oriented systems and infrastructures;
  • Dependability of software components and complex software systems;
  • Dependability of human-machine interface systems;
  • Multi-version technologies, systems and projects;
  • Test, verification and diagnosis of computer-based components and systems;
  • Functional safety of computer-based systems for nuclear power plants, aerospace systems and other critical applications;
  • Survivability of complex computer systems and infrastructures;
  • Security and intrusion-tolerance of information systems and infrastructures;
